City Still Investigating Why Sign Was Removed

Code enforcement was not sent out to remove signs, according to the city.

City officials said Friday they are still trying to figure out why a sign was taken down in the Wellington area of Woodinville last week.

“We're still investigating whether or not the employees were following policy, but I can tell you it wasn't generated based on a complaint, nor was it a targeted action,” according to Alexandra Sheeks, assistant to the city manager. “We believe the incident occurred while the employees were investigating another code enforcement issue.”

The removal of the "Save Our Neighborhood” sign in the Wellington area of Woodinville last Friday, May 25, cause controversy (). The signs were put up by the Concerned Neighbors of Wellington in protest of a proposed development which homeowners feel is a threat to the rural feel of their neighborhood.

The sign was returned to its owner nearly as soon as it was taken down, Sheeks said. “I don't believe the signs were illegal because they are political (or non-commercial) in nature. As I mentioned, we returned the signs to the Wellington neighborhood last Friday.”
