Le Petit Terroir: Offers Takeout, Delivery to Wine Tasting Rooms

There is a new restaurant in Woodinville, but this is not sit-down dining with a long wait for a table. Instead, Le Petit Terroir is offering takeout food as well as delivery to many of the wine tasting rooms in the Tourist District, worthy of a fine dining room.

Le Petit Terroir, located in the back of the building that used to house the , is aimed at people who want fine food while wine tasting. “We saw a way to offer those people a way to stay at the winery and keep tasting, or maybe order a glass of wine or a bottle, and still have a lovely meal,” said Karin Shoup, who owns the new restaurant with her husband, Dave.

The Shoups, who have lived in Woodinville off and on for more than a decade, said they were shocked by the explosion of the wine scene here after returning four years ago from a two-year stint in England. At that point Karin started a catering business, adding many of the wineries as her clients. Dave started Vinops, a software company that caters to the wine industry.

After a while of hearing winemakers and tasting room customers lament that there were not enough places in Woodinville to get good, simple food that paired well with wine, the Shoups decided to fill the void. A trip to in Redmond helped them decide how to do it. Black Raven partners with to offer its customers food that goes well with beer.

The idea is simple: offering great food that pairs well with wine, and delivering it to the tasting rooms, Karin explained. After gutting and renovating the old smokehouse, the next step was deciding on a menu; the couple describes the food as “modern Northwest cuisine with Mediterranean flair.” Next, they needed to hire a chef, and tapped the manager at the Woodinville  store for the job.

Executive Chef Kevin Sarbora is as homegrown as one can be. Raised here in Woodinville, he graduated from Ingelmoor High School and still lives here in town. Sarbora spent a month finessing the recipes and learning to make bread. “I’m a butcher not a baker and needed to learn through trial and error how to bake,” Sarbora said. “Now everybody raves about the bread so I’m feeling pretty good.”

Sarbora is also working on a line of charcuterie offerings which will eventually include prosciutto, salami and sausages.

Delivery to the nearby tasting rooms takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes depending on the order. “Everything is made fresh here in the kitchen, sourcing ingredients locally as much as we can,” Sarbora said.

In summer, there is room for about 20 diners on the patio the Shoups installed next to the restaurant, Dave said.
