Let the Holidays Begin!

Thanksgiving is this week and my family is my favorite part. :)

So I should hope we all know what this week is. Yep, it’s Thanksgiving this Thursday and I, for one, am super excited. For one, we get a four day weekend from school. That’s one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving, actually. No, I’m actually serious. I’m sure it’s one of everybody’s favorite parts of Thanksgiving. You know why, cuz we all have to get up at ridiculously early times for school or work or whatever. So now we can sleep in. Sleep is definitely one of the things

I’m thankful for this year. I love Thanksgiving because my older brother, a sophomore in college, comes home for the week and on Thanksgiving Day I always watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Then I get to hang with my whole family and watch TV and eat snacks. Then we have Thanksgiving dinner and say grace and have turkey and mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes and rolls and all the awesome food and just have a great time around the table.

I love dinner time at my house. Everyone eats together and we laugh and joke and talk about whatever. On school days we tell each other about our day, basically just what happened, nothing special. But I love it so much. I hear stories about families who don’t eat together, ever, whether it’s because the parents work or there’s no time in everyone’s schedule or because they just don’t. I find that sad. I know it may not be something they can help but it still makes me sad for them. Dinner time is the time in my family to connect with each other and stay close to each other. It’s one of my favorite times of the day.

I know that makes me sound like someone who likes food A LOT but that’s not it. I love my family and the time we take to connect at the end of the day, even if sometimes it’s the time when I get the maddest at them. This Thanksgiving I am so thankful for my family and the time we take to just be together at dinner and laugh and joke and talk about everything and anything. I love my family so much and the time we take from our lives just for dinner, as weird as it sounds. It seems like such a small thing couldn’t mean much but that’s where you’re quite wrong. It’s the one thing that, I think, keeps my family so connected and awesome.

So this Thanksgiving, make sure you get together with your family, but don’t let it stop there. Get your family together, cook a nice meal or just heat up some leftovers. Just eat with your family, you’ll see a change right away… I think. I don’t actually know if you’ll see a change because I’ve eaten with my family my whole life. But just do it. (Warning: super cliché moment) You’ll be so glad you did.
