13 Miles, 13 Times in 2013.... for a good cause.

With only three races left, Kirkland teen, Kysa Johnson, is nearing the end of her quest to run 13 half marathons this year.

Training began in January for the first race and has continued since.  Kysa can often be seen running with her dog, Luna, on the the trails of Big Finn Hill Park and the Slough Trail through Kenmore, Bothell and Woodinville.

To make up the 13 races, Kysa has participated in Northwest Trail Runs in parks, road races throughout the area and a negative split run in Spokane where she successfully ran the second half of the race at a faster pace than the first.

Giving more meaning and value to her quest, Kysa has turned her running into a fundraiser for a small non-profit based in Bothell, Rite of Passage Journeys.  This is an organization with which Kysa has a deep personal connection, having participated in a rite of passage trip at the age of 13.  She is raising money for their scholarship fund, enabling more individuals to have the same powerful and life affirming experience.

In support of her fundraiser, a donor has stepped forward offering to match any donation made between now and her last race on December 1st.
