Free Community Sports Safety Clinic Tonight (8/27)

What:

Safe Kids Eastside invites parents, athletes, coaches and the community to attend tonight’s free Sports Safety Clinic, which aims to build awareness of how to prevent concussions—a common sports injury that can have life-threatening consequences if simply “shook off.”

Sports injuries make up 20 percent of all injury-related emergency department visits for children ages 6-19, and child with a sports-related concussion visits the ED every three minutes.

With the goal of keeping young athletes safe and healthy, Safe Kids Eastside brings together at its clinic a group of expert speakers, including Seattle Seahawks and Mariners team physician Stanley A. Herring, MD.

Also addressing the public about concussion prevention, recognition and treatment are:

  • Darin Harris, a concussion survivor and former UW Husky football player
  • Zackery Lystedt, the inspiration for groundbreaking health and safety legislation in preventing brain injuries in youth sports, and his parents Victor and Mercedes Lystedt
  • Richard H. Adler, JD, the attorney who represented the Lystedt family, and the past president and current chairman of the Brain Injury Association of Washington
  • Anthony Green, Director of Public Policy for Safe Kids Worldwide

This free clinic is sponsored by the Brain Injury Association of Washington State, hosted by the Northshore School District and brought to you by Safe Kids Eastside, proudly led by EvergreenHealth.
