Lake Sammamish Girls High School Lacrosse Advances to the State Championship

In a rematch of the last year's WSLAX State Final game Lake Samm defeated Bainbridge Island 14-11 in this semi-final game. With the teamwork displayed all during the season Lake Samm jumped out to a 6-0 lead with goals coming from Claire Monsaas (Redmond HS), Sarah Wyrick (Lake Washington HS), Emily Sokol (Inglemoor HS), Anna Bernard (Redmond HS), and Alexandra Johnson (Woodinville HS). BI then exploded to cut the lead to 9-4 at halftime. The second half had BI get within one but Lake Samm matched goal for goal and then started to run the clock down with an efficient passing game and picking their chances to score and build the lead to a the final whistle and the victory. The outstanding Lake Samm defense, lead by goalie Miranda Taylor (Eastlake HS) who had three saves in the second half, staved off Bainbridge’s aggressive attack. Lakeside HS who beat Mercer Island 14-6 in earlier action in the day will be Lake Samm’s opponent. The game will be played at Mercer Island HS Friday May 17 at 7:30 and pit the Number 1 and 2 seeded teams in the state. Named this week to the Snoqualamie All Conference team Attack: Emily Sokol (IHS) Alexandra Johnson (WHS) Midfield: Claire Monsaas (RHS) Defense: Meg Chapman (WHS), Hanna Linsky (LWHS). Varsity Head Coach Tony D’Alessio in his second year in this role was also named Washington State Girls Lacrosse coach of the year. The Lake Samm girl’s team is comprised of players attending the Lake Washington and Northshore school districts.
