Christmas is Over, Time to Ditch that Tree

What to do with that tree now that Christmas is over? Curbside trash pick-up from King County, Boy Scout troop donation or private recycling are all options.

If you’re one of those people who got the Christmas tree as soon as the Thanksgiving dinner was cleared from the table, it’s a pretty crispy specimen of a fir by now.

There are a few ways to rid your home of that tree. King County will accept the tree for recycling at the curbside along with your regular yard waste. Trees must be free of flocking, tinsel and ornaments. They must also be cut into pieces less than three feet long and less than four inches at the base. Artificial or fireproofed will not be accepted. Check here for more options on tree recycling.

Boy Scout troops will often pick-up trees for a small donation. Boy Scout Troop 573 will be picking trees up on Jan. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a minimum donation of $10. The trees need to be free of tinsel and no flocked trees can be picked up. Fro more information call Kelly Stephens at 425-895-8388.

You may also pay to drop your tree at a private recycling center such as or Cedar Grove, both charge fees.
