Date Night: Pizza and Zombies

Our latest date in the historic city of Snohomish included big pizzas and some rather strange company.

We love the drive into Snohomish. Huge fields of green and quaint farmhouses make us forget we're just a few minutes away from the bustling city. Hubby had the Seahawks game playing on his iPhone and we were listening as we headed to our destination. He was pretty excited that the Seahawks were creaming the Kansas City Chiefs.

When we arrived at Cathouse Pizza on first street in downtown, there were only two tables left. "Yes!" Hubby exclaimed as we looked up to see flat screens broadcasting the Seahawks game. "You picked the right place, honey," he said. (OK, I will take the credit - but I had no idea there was a game going on when I decided to go here.)

We grabbed a spot by the wall facing the bar and the front window. The place was hopping. We watched as massive pans of brick oven pizzas were delivered to tables of hungry people, zoned out on the game. We searched around to see where the waiter was.

A tall man who looked like the owner or manager greeted us. He looked winded from racing back and forth from the kitchen.

"Sorry, we had somebody call in sick," he said.

Poor guy, and on a Friday night of all nights. "No worries," we told him, and ordered our drinks and pizza. Hubby was in the mood for root beer ($2.50) and I ordered an unsweetened ice tea ($2.50).

Since we had a buy-one-get-one-free Entertainment Book coupon for pizza only, Hubby ordered the bacon barbecue pizza ($18) and I ordered my most favorite pizza: Maui Wowie (Canadian bacon and pineapple, $18).

While we waited, we watched the game. As a touchdown was scored in the Seahawks' favor, three women at the bar jumped up and screamed, applauding for the team. It's always fun to see people get that excited in a public place.

When our food arrived, we realized this was a meal we would for sure not be able to finish. The pizzas at this place are gargantuan. I have never ordered a pizza that large anywhere. Still, we were going to try our best to make a dent.

Mmmmm...There's just something special about brick oven pizza. The crust was slightly sweet and just crispy enough. We both shared a slice of each other's pizza. Hubby's had all kinds of good stuff: bacon, barbecue sauce and onions, and mine was the perfect blend of sweet pineapple and salty Canadian bacon.

Just as we were basking in pizza heaven, someone slammed against the door of the restaurant.

"What was that?" Hubby and I turned to look.

A woman dressed in a frumpy, vintage dress with fake blood all over it was moaning and shrieking. No one in the restaurant even seemed to notice except us.
