Get Out: Weekend Planner, Aug. 19-21

Check our picks for the activities and hot spots to hit this weekend.

  • Where/When: Friday-Sunday, noon-9 p.m. at Dusted Valley Wine & Art Gallery, 14465 Woodinville Redmond Rd NE, Woodinville
  • Why Go: Most of the wineries in Woodinville close at 5 p.m. (unless there is a special event happening) Dusted Valley is trying to get in on the “date night” crowd by staying open later in the evening. The winery also has corkage specials with neighboring restaurant partners.
  • Cost: $8 tasting fee, waived upon purchase of a wine bottle.

Cosmic X-Bowl

  • Where/When: Friday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 p.m. and Midnight-2 a.m. at TechCity Bowl in Kirkland.
  • Why Go: There’s a DJ, laser show, smoke machine and prizes. Plus, kids get to stay up really late and will sleep in the next day!
  • Cost: $15 per person per session, shoes are free. Stay for the second session for $10

Where/When: 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Redmond City Hall

Why Go: Everyone gets to be a kid again at Redmond's first-ever Great Day of Play this Friday outside city hall. The afternoon will be completely dedicated to getting outside and having fun; activities include a youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament, 5K run, skateboarding demonstrations and a special appearance by Seattle Sounders player Steve Zakuani.   • Where/When: The outdoor plaza above Lake Washington at . You can arrive an hour before sunset Saturday, with the film rolling at dusk, around 8:30-8:45. 
  •  Why Go: Bring your folding chairs and blankets and snuggle up to our honey to watch the sun go down, and then the flick How to Train Your Dragon --don't forget the popcorn, available from and old-fashioned popper set up on the plaza.
  • Pricing: A $5 donation (or more) to  is requested. 

Junior Softball World Series Title Game

  • Where/When: Kirkland's , Field A. The first game Saturday of the tournament starts at 8:30 a.m., but the championship game is at 2:30 p.m. 
  • Why Go: To see some top-level girls' 12-15 softball action by  from Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Canada and the United States. The championship game, to be televised nationally by ESPN, will be played by two yet-to-be determined teams. But at midweek the host Bellevue/Mercer Island squad was doing well, with a 2-1 tourney record.
  • Pricing: Free.

 

  • Why Go: Bring your friends and family out to Richmond beach saltwater Park for this summertime tradition.  Try your hand at a unique sand creation or just watch the competition unfold from the sidelines. Need a little inspiration? Check out these awesome creations!
