Pouring rain and a little mud Friday evening didn't stop people from attending what organizers hope will be the first annual Community Tree Lighting at Chateau Ste. Michelle.
There were tents set up, under which were popcorn and hot cider, coffee and candy canes, but before the ceremony began, many opted for shelter inside the winery.
Because of the rain, organizers started the program ahead of schedule. After several holiday songs by the Woodinville High School Choir and a few remarks by Mike Stevens, President of Woodinville Wine Country, and Woodinville Mayor Bernie Talmas, the tree lit up with multi-colored lights.

The event was the kick off to the popular St. Nick's Winter in Woodinville weekend of holiday events at area wineries.
It was also the start of a food drive benefitting the Northshore YMCA. From now through Dec. 16, fill the barrels with non-perishable food items for those in need at participating wineries and local businesses. Some ideas; canned fruit, instant oatmeal, pasta, nuts, canned meat.
