Recycling Event at Windermere Woodinville Saturday

The downtown real estate business is hosting its annual recycling event for Woodinville Sept. 17, and a food or cash donation drive for the Maltby Food Bank.

is hosting its annual recycling event and drive, Saturday Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The real estate company is once again partnering with 1 Green Planet, a non-profit organization dedicated to diverting e-waste from landfills and turning those discarded gadgets into resources for other service organizations.

“We turn these disposed electronics into much needed resources. Funding from old, reused electronics and PCs can provide food or shelter, provide students with uniforms, and support environmental education and enrichment programs for children and communities, including monthly donations to the Issaquah Food Bank, Seattle Children's Hospital, and St. Jude's Children's research Hospital,” it says on the group’s website.

Will Bruce, owner of the 30-year-old Woodinville business, said the event is a way to give back to the community for the company's success.

This is no staid recycling event, he added, every year he brings his vintage truck to add a bit of fun to the day.

In addition to bringing down unwanted electronics, people in the community take the opportunity to hang around and get caught up with each other. The entire day has a more of a festive atmosphere than a typical recycling event.

So what do they take for recycling? Computers and parts, printers, fax machines, phones, record players, speakers, radios, game systems, TV's of all sizes, VCRs (Wow, does anyone still have these?), Christmas tree lights, appliances of any size, car batteries, medical equipment, ink toner and cartridges.

What they can’t take: wood, glass (e.g., no fluorescent bulbs), rubber (e.g., tires), porcelain (e.g., toilet bowl), fabric (e.g., mattresses) or paint.

Nothing to recycle? Windermere is also accepting cash or food donations for the Maltby Food Bank.

Or as Burce said, just stop by to say hello, everyone is welcome.
