Snohomish County Air Show to Feature Restored B-25s

A survivor of the Doolittle Raid against Japan will be in attendance.

Flying enthusiasts from around Puget Sound are expected at an air show in Snohomish County on Saturday, Spet. 24.

Two legendary B-25 bombers will once again take to the skies over Paine Field for the Flying Heritage Collection’s final free summer Fly Day event of the year. This will be the organization’s first-ever Fly Day to feature these two unique bomber aircraft side-by-side.

Earlier this year, the Flying Heritage Collection finished restoration of its B-25J, which is recognized as one of the most accurately restored WWII bombers in existence. On Saturday, the public will have one final opportunity this year to see these historic aircraft in action. The Flying Heritage Collection will fly the B-25J alongside the Historic Flight Foundation’s B-25D nicknamed “Grumpy.”

The B-25 is a twin-engine medium bomber manufactured by North American Aviation, used in a wide range of roles by Allied air forces during World War II. These aircraft are particularly well known for their role in the Doolittle Raid in which 16 B-25s launched an assault on Japan in April 1942, arguably jump-starting U.S. morale during WWII.

A surviving member of the Doolittle Raiders, Puyallup resident Ed Sayer, will be present at this event and will receive recognition for his more than a quarter century of military service.

The event is from noon to 1 p.m. at Paine Field, 3407 109th St., Everett. Parking is free, and attendees can walk through the gates to reach the viewing area. Limited seating is available.

Admission to Fly Days is free.

Admission into the Flying Heritage Collection is additional. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military, $8 for kids 6-15 and free for kids 5 and under. Groups of 15 or more are $10 per person.
