Tea, Talk and Tour of the Trillium Trail in Woodinville

Susie Egan, Woodinville's trillium expert, is opening her Cottage Lake garden for a special Mother's Day tour.

 

The  Trillium Tea, Talk and Tour of the Trillium Trail event still have openings for its Sunday, May 13 Mother's Day tour, at 10 a.m for $20 per person. The event is an opportunity to visit the private garden's vast collection of trillium.

The tour begins with tea or coffee (in vintage trillium china cups) and light refreshments. Cottage Lake Gardens owner Susie Egan will then present a 45-minute PowerPoint talk on trilliums including their fascinating evolution, photographs and descriptions of the many different trillium species, how to care for them and even how to propagate them. Then the group will be lead on a tour of the Trillium Trail at Cottage Lake Gardens as well of the entire one-acre garden. Following the tour Trilliums will be available to purchase.

Susie Egan is a garden designer, lecturer, writer (you can read her stories on Woodinville Patch here) and owner of Cottage Lake Gardens in Woodinville. Susie’s focus in recent years has been the study and propagation of native and woodland plants particularly . When not working in the garden or giving talks, Susie volunteers as a WSU Master Gardener or is involved with several local horticultural organizations.

Egan's one-acre property is a mixture of native woodland gardens intertwined with nature trails, perennial borders and a breathtaking sunny lakeside garden. It is a botanical treasure trove of more than a thousand different species of native and exotic plants and has been host to a number of garden tours by local garden clubs and horticultural organizations.

The garden's real attraction is its comprehensive trillium collection with 45 of the 47 species of trilliums in the world.
