Woodinville Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Coco Dunbar

Every week Woodinville Patch seeks suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. This week Woodinville High School teacher Christine Traxler nominated a senior for her devotion to equality and inclusivness.

Whiz Kid's Name: Coco Dunbar

Whiz  Kid's School: Woodinville High School

 Whiz Kid's Accomplishment:  Gay-Straight Alliance President 2010-2011.  Coco has successfully created a safe and welcoming space for students of all sexual orientations and perceived sexual orientations.  Under her leadership, the club has discussed issues about gender and bullying at school, hosted several guest speakers including a movie producer, and arranged and organized a Youth Suicide Prevention Training for students and staff for Thursday, Feb. 17.  

 Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: (what made him/her successful?):  Coco is non-judgmental, kind and positive.  She is truly accepting of all people, and seeks to create an atmosphere of love and acceptance at Woodinville High School.  Her intelligence and can-do attitude make her a favorite with teachers and peers alike.
