Cottage Lake Summer Concert Line-up Announced

Despite facing its extinction, Upper Bear Creek Community Council organized the popular Music in the Park summer events.

Upper Bear Creek Community Council announced the schedule for the 2011 Music in the Park summer concerts at Cottage Lake Park. This year’s line-up includes perennial favorites and as well as new bands. The Thursday night family concerts begin at 7 p.m. beginning July 7 through July 28.

The concert season is kicked-off July 7 with the Eastside Modern Jazz Orchestra, the ensemble plays a mix of funk, Latin, jazz-rock fusion, and contemporary jazz, all expressed with the unique power that comes from a big band. They’ve become a community favorite at the concerts.

On July14, the group Night and Day will play popular tunes for the crowds bringing together the rhythmic talents of pianist Barbara Liggett, guitarist Kimball Conant, and percussionist Julio Palomino to create smokin' arrangements of the great dance tunes from the '30s to the '50s.

The sound of bagpipes will fill the air on July 21 with the Elliott Bay Pipe Band

The Not Easily Broken, the Hess Family’s bluegrass band will end the concert season July 28 with their brand of classic bluegrass music.

The concerts are sponsored in partnership with 4Culture, this may be the last year the council organizes the popular summer events, King County will at the end of June.
