First founded by Michael “Mad Mike” Miller in the greater Seattle area in 2009, Rock Out ALS is an organization that holds live music events all year long in order to raise awareness of and raise funds for the fight against ALS. Beginning 2011, Rock Out ALS (or ROALS) launched its national expansion, naming its first two of twelve cities it will be opening Charters in; St. Louis Missouri and Baton Rouge, Louisana.
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. It progressively interrupts the brain's ability to control the body's voluntary muscle functions, including breathing and speech. It leaves a fully emotional and thinking brain trapped inside a silent, motionless shell. It can attack ANYONE regardless of age, race, sex or economic status. There is NO CURE. The average life expectancy is 2 - 5 years from diagnosis. 40% of families living with an ALS patient are forced to live in poverty. ROCK OUT ALS raises awareness and funds for ALS TDI for research and development of a medical therapy that will interrupt the progression of ALS and extend lives.
