Auction of Washington Wines Barrels into Woodinville

The Auction of Washington Wines and its myriad of activities kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 18 with its annual picnic and barrel auction at Chateau Ste. Michelle.

The Auction of Washington Wines activities range from the casual picnic on Thursday to private winemaker dinners throughout the Puget Sound on Friday, Aug. 19 to the gala on Saturday, Aug. 20 at . This year’s gala will be eschewing the traditional black tie dress code for a slightly more casual cocktail attire/no jacket required format. Even more casual is The Covey Run, a 5K-10K run or walk starting at 8 am on Saturday, Aug. 20 at .

Tickets range from $150 for the picnic to premium weekend packages for two for $3,000. Tickets to Friday’s winemaker dinners are $250. Tickets to Saturday’s gala are $500. Proceeds benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital’s uncompensated care fund and the Washington Wine Education Foundation. Last year’s auction raised $1.4 million.

At Thursday’s picnic, winemakers from Washington will be pouring wine throughout the Chateau Ste. Michelle grounds to pair with a casual picnic fare catered by the Tulalip Resort Casino. The Barrel Auction will feature wine case lots from 25 wineries.

Saturday’s gala will include a live auction featuring lots such as dinner for eight at Rover’s with DeLille Cellars, dinner for 12 at RN74 with Quilceda Creek wines and large format bottles of wine by Betz Family Winery and other Woodinville producers.

This year’s auction is chaired by Brad and Michele Smith, and Rick Small and Darcey Fugman-Small of Woodward Canyon. Jerry Bookwalter, founder of Bookwalter Winery and a vineyard consultant, is this year’s Honorary Grower. Chris Camarda of Andrew Will Winery is the Honorary Vintner.
