Columbia Winery to Celebrate 50th Anniversary
Columbia Winery will celebrate 50 years of wine making on Sept. 14, with a gala featuring their first-ever sparkling wine.
This year marks ’s 50th year as Washington’s first premium winery. Celebrate their wine making history at Columbia's Golden Anniversary Celebration Gala on September 14, 2012. There will be a special barrel tasting, live music by the Erickson Group, hors d'oeuvres from A Platinum Event Catering, and their first ever Sparkling Wine to toast their pioneering legacy. Cocktail attire is recommended.
Columbia was founded in 1962 by 10 friends, six of whom were University of Washington professors. Originally known as Associated Vintners, the group was united in the belief that classic European vinifera vines would thrive in the Washington climate and that fine wine could be made in Washington State. They began by making their wines in the garage of Dr. Lloyd Woodburne, Columbia Winery’s first winemaker, in the Seattle neighborhood of Laurelhurst.
