The publication's annual hospital ranking considers patient death rates and physician surveys, among other factors.

Kirkland's EvergreenHealth Medical Center has been ranked No. 2 in Washington state as part of U.S. News & World Report's annual Best Hospitals survey.

The publication says its rankings were devised using patient death rates and physician surveys, among other factors. Nearly 4,800 hospitals around the nation were evaluated in 16 medical specialties, and the facilities designated as high performing in at least one of these areas were ranked at the state or regional level.

Here is what U.S. News & World Report had to say about EvergreenHealth:

"Evergreen Health Medical Center is a general medical and surgical hospital in Kirkland, WA. It performed nearly at the level of nationally ranked U.S. News Best Hospitals in 10 adult specialties... It scored high in patient safety, demonstrating commitment to reducing accidents and medical mistakes. Evergreen Health Medical Center has 274 beds. The hospital had 16,029 admissions in the latest year for which data are available. It performed 4,054 annual inpatient and 2,599 outpatient surgeries. Its emergency room had 55,698 visits."

University of Washington Medical Center topped the list for Washington state, followed by Evergreen at No. 2 and Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children's Hospital in Spokane at No. 3. Harborview Medical Center and Providence Holy Family Hospital in Spokane rounded out the top five.
