Pomegranate Bistro Adds Bar Area, Happy Hour Specials

The restaurant will hold a grand opening for the new space on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Redmond's  is offering patrons an enticing dining alternative with the addition of a new 1,500 square-foot-bar area and happy hour specials.

The new area, dubbed POMBAR, began welcoming customers last week, but its official grand opening takes place this Thursday from 3:30 to 10 p.m. Happy hour prices will be available all evening long to celebrate the expansion.

Pomegranate general manager Seth Hammond said the idea for a separate bar area has been in the works ever since the bistro first opened in 2004. When a neighboring facility went vacant, Pomegranate jumped on the opportunity to move its office space next door and open a bar where the offices once were.

"It's been an idea for a long time," Hammond said.

The new space has a rustic but modern feel with seating at tables as well as at a wooden bar made out of pickle barrels from an old Nalley pickle factory in South Seattle. A large, antique sign reading "liquor"—also found in South Seattle—hangs behind the bar.

POMBAR adds an additional 32 seats to the bistro, pushing its total dining capacity to 100. The full Pomegranate menu is available in the bar, along with a new "small bites" menu featuring snacks like mini grilled mac 'n' cheese sandwiches, malted bacon popcorn and flavored potato chips.

With the addition of the bar, Pomegranate has also expanded its selection of draft beer, revamped its cocktail menu, and introduced a happy hour. Happy hour specials run from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and include $3 draft beers, $5 wines, $5 flatbreads and half off all bar snacks.

POMBAR closes at 10 p.m. most evenings and holds the same hours as the main restaurant. For more information, visit the POMBAR website.
