Ruby’s Diner in Woodinville Closed

Burgers are out; fish is in as Big Fish Grill of Kirkland prepares to move into the vacant restaurant.

Ruby’s Diner closed its doors Friday night and is out of business in Woodinville. Visitors Monday found the doors locked, the windows shuttered, and a notice thanking the community for its past patronage and sending diners to the Redmond Town Center location.

Another public notice taped to a porthole window declared of Kirkland had applied for a liquor license.

“I don’t know if all the t’s are crossed and i’s dotted, but I know we plan to open another restaurant there,” said Howard Zoet, general manager of the Kirkland restaurant.

Zoet said there are plans to remodel the 1940s themed burger joint to complement the décor of the Kirkland seafood restaurant. Zoet is part of the management team that created Big Fish after it was bought from the Newport Bay restaurant chain in 2009. They plan to open the Woodinville Big Fish Grill in May.

The Ruby Restaurant Group is headquartered in Irvine, California. No one from the company returned repeated phone calls Monday. The Woodinville Ruby’s opened in November 2002.
