Sutter Home Official Says They Were Ousted for Winery/Tasting Room

Sutter Home and Hearth, which closed suddenly at the end of August, was forced to move out of its home at Hollywood Vineyard Center, an official told Patch Thursday.

at the end of August, was forced to move out of its home at Hollywood Vineyards Retail Center, an official told Patch Thursday.

Mike Duval of Sutter Home and Hearth told Woodinville Patch the following in an email:

We were sad to have to leave the Hollywood Vineyard Center. The Landlord there would not renew our lease and is having another winery/wine tasting room move in. We had to leave at the end of August. It was unexpected for us and we did not have enough time to secure a new Eastside location before our move.  We are actively pursuing a new location and have been in negotiation on several sites that have not come to fruition. We are continuing to look and are optimistic that we will find the right spot in the new year.

Tully's coffee shop in the same shopping mall closed in recent weeks after declaring bankrupcy. Most of the other businesses in that complex are wine-related.

Sutter Home and Hearth has been known for its fireplaces, stoves, grills and outdoor heating since 1979. The showroom in Woodinville featured a wide variety of products on display and in operation.

Patch will attempt to contact the landlord of the shopping center for their take. Check back for updates.

How do you feel about a long-time business having to make way for a winery? Is this the future of Woodinville, and is that okay? Tell us in comments.

Another winery, ho hum. Open space for balloon landings is steadily decreasing so now Woodinville is to be celebrated as a wine hub. I guess wineries will pay higher rents than mere ordinary merchants. It's all about the almighty dollar. Unfortunately, now there's little reason to visit that Hollywood Vineyard strip mall except for wine. I'll await a new location for Sutter Home & Hearth.

Let's get all our eggs in one basket so when something happens to the wine industry, we find ourselves in a similar situation to what happened when the sales tax rules were changed.

So sad to hear that sutter home and hearth were ousted. Yes, we love the wineries, but it is nice to be able to shop in a totally different venue at this mall. My husband and I had gone into Sutter there several times and got great service with their employees. I truly was sad to see them gone.

Hopefully Vineyards Salon can stay. They are a great full salon (hair cuts, style, manicure, massage, etc). Vilena is a great stylist!

I am disappointed that yet another winery is moving in to this location. We have enough wineries. I believe it's important to have a well-rounded group of businesses in our town. Woodinville is becoming so wine-centric! I hadn't heard that Woodinville may be becoming the Walmart of wineries, but maybe that tag is appropriate!
