Bothell, WA - On October 20th, the Northshore Composite Squadron (Bothell, WA) celebrated its 45th anniversary with a reunion party. Using the squadron's Facebook page (plus word-of-mouth), Northshore was able to reach many squadron alumni -- including the unit's very first Cadet Commander, Jim Knisley.
Highlighting the evening was the presentation of the Billy Mitchell award to C/2Lt Aaron Johnson. This award is usually presented by a local dignitary or community leader. In light of the number of dignitaries present that night, the award was co-presented by CAP Northwest Area Commander LtCol Paul Rowe, previous Northshore squadron commanders LtCol Karen Walter and Maj. Linda Garross, current squadron commander Capt Charles Jackson, and the squadron's first Cadet Commander, Jim Knisley.
The Billy Mitchell award is the second of four milestone awards that CAP cadets earn, and is considered equivalent to an Eagle Scout. Cadets who earn the Mitchell are also eligible for advanced placement to the grade of E-3 should they choose to enter the Air Force.
C/2Lt Aaron Johnson has been a member of the Northshore squadron since 2009. He is a freshman at the University of Washington.
