Semi-Truck Removed After Driving Nearly a Mile on Sammamish River Trail

The Sammamish River Trail is back open in Woodinville after a semi-truck accidentally drove on the path early Friday and became stuck for several hours.

Driver John Feher was attempting to deliver metal framing to SCAFCO Steel Stud Manufacturing Co. in Woodinville at about 2 a.m. Friday when he mistook the trail for an access road. Doug Williams, a spokesman with King County Parks, said the truck, which was pulling two trailers, traveled about three-fourths of a mile down the trail before attempting to turn around and getting stuck.

Feher told Patch he had never been in the area before and was driving down Northeast 178th Street, which dead ends at the trail near State Route 522. Feher said he did not see any warning signs about the dead end.

"It was a nightmare," he said.

Crews that responded to the scene removed some of the fencing that separates the highway from the trail in order to get the truck turned around, Williams said. The trail was cleared at around 11 a.m.

“Everything’s back to normal now. The trial’s been re-opened,” he said.

There were no injuries in the incident, and Feher said his load was not damaged.
