Most
Americans are aware of research that shows the linkages between eating
habits and the risk for several types of cancer. The American Cancer
Society estimates that as many as 35% of cancer deaths may be related to
food alone.

Q: Which foods are associated with a lower cancer risk?


A:
For sure, organic fruits and vegetables are prime candidates, but
according to the Centers for Disease Control, only about 25% of adults
in the U.S. eat the recommended five or more servings of fruits and
vegetables each day.

Q: So, how can you increase your consumption of fresh produce in simple ways?


A:
Dr. Price and Chef Emily will show you how to make several meals
containing organic and sustainable ingredients that are known to be the
most protective against cancer.


At
the conclusion of the class, students will receive resources about the
freshly prepared sample foods and recommendations for incorporating
other foods known to promote optimum wellness.


Instructor


Dr.
Lisa Price earned her graduate degree in biochemistry and microbiology
and worked professionally as a research scientist before earning her
Naturopathic Medicine degree in 1998 from Bastyr University. From 2005
to 2010, she was awarded a National Institutes of Health research
fellowship to study the immunological effects of a natural product.
Currently, she practices at the Northwest Natural Health Clinic, a
specialty clinic providing complementary cancer care as well as general
integrative medical solutions for her patients. 

Her
desire to seek social and environmental justice resulted in activist
work for most of her adult life. These include a stint in the Peace
Corps and being one of the founders of the Seattle organization
Community Coalition for Environmental Justice. As of late, she has
focused her energies on educating communities on how to make healthier
choices via food and nutrition through online articles, workshops and
through her medical practice.


Dr. Price is a native of Brooklyn, NY but for the past 20-plus years, she has lived in  Seattle with her two lovely daughters and her spouse.
