GLEE musician Derik Nelson to perform fundraiser concert at the Northshore Performing Arts Center to benefit Woodinville High School’s Performing Arts Department.

“GLEE” guitarist Derik Nelson will play a full-band pop/rock concert at the Northshore Performing Arts Center on September 26th at 7p.m. to raise money for Woodinville High School’s performing arts programs.

The concert is projected to earn at least $4,500 for Woodinville High’s performing arts department under the direction of Josh Butchart, Eric Lucas and Kyra Rengstorf. “We are thrilled Woodinville is one of the schools selected for this unique fundraising concert experience,” says Rengstorf.  “The funds created through Derik’s concert will help support our students through funds raised for supplies for drama productions, new music uniforms, sheet music for our students, and band and orchestra instrument repairs.”

This concert is part of Derik Nelson’s “Take Chances Tour,” providing high schools across the West Coast the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars through ticket sales for his full-band live pop/rock concerts.  “My brother, sister, and I grew up in public school,” Nelson explains,  “We are passionate about the arts, music, and about giving back and we see the budget cuts really affecting these schools. We wanted an out-of-the-box way for schools to fundraise,” he continues. The Take Chances Tour is scheduled to reach at least 30 schools across the West Coast, and all schools are expected to earn $2,000 to $10,000 through the program. Nelson and his team also provide a free educational masterclass assembly to students at the school during the day about career opportunities in the arts.

“I want a way to reach my fans, and I want to make a difference in arts & music education.  It’s a win/win,” Nelson smiles.

Concert tickets to benefit Woodinville’s Performing Arts Department are $17 in advance and $20 at the door (cash and check only) and go on sale August 27, 2013 at whsperformingarts.brownpapertickets.com or by phone at 1-800-838-3006.  To learn more about Derik Nelson’s fundraising music tour, go to www.deriknelson.com/tour
