The glorious crystal day of the Winter Solstice is
approaching. Physically and astronomically, the Winter Solstice the longest
night of our year, where Earth stills in darkness, preparing for the return of
the life-giving Sun. We can feel the infant light flickering just beyond the horizon, awaiting renewal. For us to live, in the literal sense, that wheel must turn from slumber and death to the blaze of life. On the Winter Solstice night, our ancestors knew the hopefulness and joy of the returning Sun, and rejoiced in their deliverance from death and darkness. Let us renew that joy.
