Times Editorial a Contradiction

The Seattle Times Editorial about I-1351 reveals some interesting inferences in its choice of wording.  Though it refers to reducing class size as a “noble goal”, the Times then sets about to contradict that statement as the major thrust of the editorial.

For example, it would appear one can have a “thoughtful debate about K-12 funding, reforms, accountability, and outcomes.”  But you can’t have a thoughtful debate” about class size.

Returning to pre-recession staffing levels is not part of a “thoughtful debate”, it’s a “hiring spree.”  It’s not an attempt to improve the learning environment of students, it’s only a way to get “new union members.”

The issue is then trivialized by the Times reference to the state being “toward the bottom among states nationally”.  At 47th, we are at the bottom of the bottom quartile in the nation.  That should not be acceptable.
