Parks Director Trys to Sneak a Tournament Facility at Wellington Hills into the new "Vision" - Come Tell The Council NO!

On Tuesday, January 28th, The Parks Director will present the new Parks "Visioning Plan" for 2014 - designed to lay the groundwork for making sure a sports complex is constructed at our local Park.

This is the Draft Visioning Plan, and the Motion to Adopt the Visioning Plan . Please note that the Director claims he's solicited public input and implies that the "visioning plan" reflects that input.

Obviously, in the case of Wellington Hills Park, IT DOES NOT

His visioning plan is the Park's input to the new 2015 County Comprehensive Plan Update. That means that if his vision gets approved, it's that much harder to point out to outsiders that we don't NEED a commercial sports complex in this location.

Surveys of County residents during 2011 emphasize maintaining the parks we have, rather than building new ones. Surveys to determine potential service needs show that these sports fields are actually needed up near Marysville.

But the Parks Director has his own agenda, and this is his step toward trying to convince the County that the commercial sports complex belongs here.

Don't let him do it! COME to the Operations Committee meeting if you possibly can! Get your friends, family and neighbors to stand up and FIGHT THIS VISION! It's not OUR vision and the Council Members and Executive need to hear that FROM US!

This is a link to the map for County Council Offices at 3000 Rockefeller Ave, Everett, WA 98201. The Council Operations meeting is from 9 am to 10 am; if you wish to make a comment, please come a few minutes early so you can sign up. We each get 3 minutes to make a comment prior to the start of the rest of the agenda. The Council Members are not required to respond or even acknowledge our comments, but it's important that we show up. The so called "Visioning Plan" is scheduled to be presented late in the meeting.

You don't have to live near the Park or even be a Snohomish County resident. You just need to be concerned about Wellington Park and our local community. I hope to see you there. If you come, wear green -- we are the ones trying to save the Park from overdevelopment, and nothing says that better than a sea of green!

Thanks for your support!
