Snohomish County Hearing Examiner agrees with NSWP on SEPA jurisdiction

On Wednesday, June 19th, the Snohomish County Hearing Examiner ruled that he does not have jurisdiction to hear the SEPA appeals. In his Order Regarding Jurisdiction, the Hearing Examiner agreed with our position that the “Notice of Action was improperly used”. The Parks Department issued the Notice of Action (describing the decision to proceed with the Sports Complex plan for Wellington Hills Park) and the Mitigated Determination of Non-Significance (MDNS) with the SEPA checklist responses, even though their Master Plan had not been approved by the County Council. The Hearing Examiner's ruling indicates that these documents cannot be issued until the County Council has approved the final plan for Wellington Hills Park.

This is the time to contact each and every one of the County Council Members, to voice your opposition to this bad idea! Even if you don't live in their district, each County Council Member will affect your life and your community when they vote on this plan. Call, email or write each of them

We have a new County Executive, and the Parks Director works for him! Contact John Lovick, and voice your concerns about the sports complex plan. Urge the County Council and the County Executive to discard the sports complex plan, work with the community to design a park that fits the rural community, and do a full Environmental Impact Study of the Park site.

Thanks to the community for helping reach this point!  Please contact the County Council members and the County Executive, and help us finish this fight to throw out the plan for a commercial facility and replace it with an appropriate Park, designed with community members.  To see photos of the Park and keep up with all the Park news, please check our other blogs: NeighborsToSaveWellingtonPark.blogspot.com and SaveWellingtonPark.com.
