Every year on the day before Mother’s Day, hundreds of enthusiastic amateur gardeners have lined up with boxes and wagons in the parking lot of , awaiting the opening of the Woodinville Garden Club Plant Sale at 9 a.m. on Saturday May 12. The Woodinville Garden Club’s Plant Sale will kick off at Chateau Ste. Michelle right on time, rain or shine.
Garden glub members have planted and nurtured over 15,000 plants to near perfection. Now it’s your turn: choose from choice annuals, perennials, salad bowls and voluptuous hanging baskets. This is the Year of the Tomato, and we have our famous tomato plants in gallon size containers to give you a head start.
Also this year we are featuring Juliet, Glacier and Early Girl Bush Tomatoes, all well-suited to our Woodinville climate. Heirloom tomato Cosmonaut Volkov and the ever popular cherry tomatoes Sungold and Sweet Million are making a return from last year. Our tomatoes are so dependable Article and popular they are often the first item to sell out.
All plants available at the sale are grown by the members in a beautiful greenhouse made available by a generous family in Woodinville. Teams of garden club members meet twice each week beginning in February, to seed, transplant and groom nearly 15,000 plants. On a special day at the beginning of April, the beautiful hanging flower baskets are planted with specialty annuals and delicate airy ferns. Choose from three styles of hanging baskets designed especially to thrive in your shady or sunny location.
Proceeds from the sale are used to fund the club’s many projects, including the purchase of the famous flower pots lining Woodinville’s main street, and the new Baseball Mitt Statue at the Woodinville Sports Fields. This year n to three students of horticulture or environmental science.
Parking is plentiful and accessible, carryout assistance is available and plenty of boxes await you. Prices are reasonable, and free advice from our friendly and knowledgeable members is always available. And shopping our sale on the beautiful grounds of Chateau Ste. Michelle is a great way to complete your Mother’s Day shopping list!
