Seeking Someone Who Might Still Live at Cottage Lake Since 1956

My father supposedly drowned in Cottage Lake.

I used to live in Kirkland and Redmond years ago. My family was stationed at Fort Lewis and we were there for a long time. My father supposedly drowned in Cottage Lake. Over the years, we have tried to get information on his death with no help from the King County Sheriff Department or the ARMY.

I need your help in finding anyone who resides at that lake and maybe they can tell me something about the day he died. I have so many conflicting stories. The date of his death was 5-18-1956 and he was only 21, so very young. They said he drowned, but there are certain circumstances we have and my family does not believe that. If anyone could help me, email me at patblckw@aol.com. We can talk if you want by phone once you email me. Thanks for all the help from anyone. If you know anyone who stays here or if you know anything, any help would be appreciated.

Maybe someone at the Heritage Society could help?
Patricia Blackwell February 2, 2013 at 01:27 pm
Thanks. I do not know who the Heritage Society is. Can you tell me?

Kat,
Your tip led me to the answer. I found the newspaper article from someone at the Woodinville heritage org. Thanks a million. I also found out who was with him when he died, it was in the newspaper clipping. Again thanks.

I'm so glad they were able to help you...but more importantly, I hope this brings you some healing and closure. I can't even imagine struggling to find information on a loved one and coming up empty.

Can you post the newspaper article?
Patricia Blackwell February 10, 2013 at 02:42 pm
Yes I can but I could not get it to copy and paste. If you want it, email me your email at patblckw@aolo.com and I will send a copy to you. If you can copy and paste, then you can post for me. I tried but on the site, the article will not post. I copied it from the Seattle Times as a whole page and saved it to word document.

Patricia, can you email it to me at jeanne.gustafson@patch.com and I'll post it for you?
I'm sure the community would really like to read it. Thanks, Jeanne

I just sent the article to you. Jeanne. Thanks. I may have to order another copy of the article and it is titled Soldier Drowns Swimming at Cottage Lake. I would like to ask anyone if they have any pictures of the lake from 1940-1956. When I tried to post the article it would not allow me and it may be from the type of file that it is. You will see the one I sent to you and then you can decide. If it does not download for you, let me know and I will order a hard copy from the Seattle Times. I have been told that my father was the only one that has drowned at this lake. Vital Statistics in King County does not have accurate records on drownings in the county.. I can not find the guy who was with my father when he died, and he would not tell my mother what happened when she tried to get up with him. My dad could swim according to his family and my mother. I recently visited the lake and found it hard to even imagine how someone could be drowning in that small lake and not be noticed. I just noticed your post and sorry it took so long to get back to you. If anyone has any pictures of the lakes from all angles it would be appreciated, or if anyone knows anything. I already know more now than I did before from just visiting this website. Thanks everyone and God bless everyone.

Hello Mr. Francois and NSD School Board, I have been keeping an open mind about the choice ofRead More Wednesday as the early release day. I kept an open mind, but not so open that my brains fell out. I voted for Friday for a reason. Not to take my child out of school early or in hopes that teachers would see it as a day off, but because it made the most sense for my family. Wednesday wasn't a horrible day and was my 2nd choice. Personally, now, after reviewing others input, your input and doing some thinking on my own, I believe you made the wrong choice. Your parents have brains, we are educated and we gave you our opinion and trusted that you would actually use the poll data wisely. You failed us, therefore you failed our children. It is okay so say you made a mistake, that is what we teach our children. Please tell your parents you made a mistake and make Friday early release day for the new school year. Positively hopeful! I have lived in Woodinville for over18 years. For around 5 years after we moved there on any warmRead More summer night you could look up and see at least 3 balloons and many times 4,5,6 or 7 of them but that all stopped abruptly one year. The explanation we got was that the balloonist were following the French historical practice of awarding a bottle of champagne to any land owner who's land they happened to land on. Well, the state couldn't allow that since the balloonist had no liquor license. Don't you just love government?
