Boston Marathon: "Suddenly the Party Was Over," Father of Woodinville Runner Bud Withers Writes of Scene

"They made a day of triumph for so many of the 27,000 competitors one that will forever be recalled for its tragedy," Bud Withers wrote of the Boston Marathon bombings Monday.

According to the Boston Marathon website, 25-year-old Woodinville man Brett Withers ran the race, and finished in approximately 2 hours 34 minutes.Β 

According to his father, Seattle Times reporter Bud Withers, he and his son were at a bar about three blocks away celebrating the former Gonzaga runner's finish when they saw the breaking news of the explosions reported on television.

"They made a day of triumph for so many of the 27,000 competitors one that will forever be recalled for its tragedy," Bud Withers wrote.

"Suddenly the party was over. People looked vacantly at each other. A Samuel Adams "26.2" β€” brewed in honor of the marathon β€” sat untouched."
