UPDATE: Downed Tree Knocks Out Power; Council Meeting Canceled
Fire department closed roads temporarily after the afternoon incident. About 750 people were still without power at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
A downed tree Tuesday afternoon caused a power outage that stretched into the evening for parts of Woodinville, forcing the cancelation of Tuesday night's City Council meeting and any events at the nearby sports fields.
Woodinville Fire & Rescue temporarily closed NE 177th Place and the 1300 block of Woodinville-Snohomish Road NE Tuesday afternoon when rain and wind caused a tree to fall on a power line at about 3:30 p.m.; the tree and powerline both fell onto a gas meter, causing a gas leak, according to Deputy Fire Chief Mark Chubb.
Initially, the incident caused about 2,5000 Puget Sound Energy customers to lose power for several hours, including some businesses. About 750 PSE customers were still without power at 7 p.m. Those last customers should have their power restored by 8 p.m., according to Lindsey Walimaki, spokesperson for the energy company.
