Police Say Edmonds Man Injured in Shooting Displayed a Weapon

Police say the man refused to get out of his vehicle and displayed a weapon out the window before shots were fired and the man was struck several times near Wayne Golf Course.

A 68-year-old Edmonds man injured in an officer-involved shooting Oct. 26 in Bothell refused to exit his truck and displayed a weapon out the window before officers shot him several times, according to a news release sent Wednesday by the Snohomish Multi Agency Reponse Team (SMART).

The man remains in Harborview Medical Center and is expected to survive injuries sustained during the incident, police said.

On Oct. 26, multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in an almost 6 mile slow speed pursuit of the Edmonds man after his wife reported he was suicidal and left their Edmonds house with a weapon. When the man refused to stop, a spike strip was used to flatten the passenger side tires on his GMC Sierra pickup truck in Bothell.

Shortly thereafter, the truck stopped in the 16700 block of 96th Avenue NE near Wayne Golf Course, just north of Kirkland. There, police say the man refused to get out of the vehicle and displayed a weapon out the window.

Shots were fired by police and the man was reportedly struck several times. Although still in Harborview Medical Center, the man was booked into King County Jail on Oct. 30 on the charge of assault in the second degree. Patch generally does not name suspects until they are formally charged.

The officers involved in the shooting are a 22 year veteran of the Edmonds Police Department and a Sergeant from Mountlake Terrace Police Department with 16 years of experience. Both are currently on administrative leave during the investigation.

A SMART investigation was initiated as Snohomish County law enforcement officers were involved in the incident and their respective agencies requested the team investigate.

Police are asking for the public's assistance with the case. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it, is asked to contact the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 425-388-3845.

Hello Mr. Francois and NSD School Board, I have been keeping an open mind about the choice ofRead More Wednesday as the early release day. I kept an open mind, but not so open that my brains fell out. I voted for Friday for a reason. Not to take my child out of school early or in hopes that teachers would see it as a day off, but because it made the most sense for my family. Wednesday wasn't a horrible day and was my 2nd choice. Personally, now, after reviewing others input, your input and doing some thinking on my own, I believe you made the wrong choice. Your parents have brains, we are educated and we gave you our opinion and trusted that you would actually use the poll data wisely. You failed us, therefore you failed our children. It is okay so say you made a mistake, that is what we teach our children. Please tell your parents you made a mistake and make Friday early release day for the new school year. Positively hopeful! I have lived in Woodinville for over18 years. For around 5 years after we moved there on any warmRead More summer night you could look up and see at least 3 balloons and many times 4,5,6 or 7 of them but that all stopped abruptly one year. The explanation we got was that the balloonist were following the French historical practice of awarding a bottle of champagne to any land owner who's land they happened to land on. Well, the state couldn't allow that since the balloonist had no liquor license. Don't you just love government?
