A couple from Brier will likely face felony mail theft charges after Edmonds Police said they were found with 407 pieces of stolen mail in their car from dozens of victims in Edmonds, Woodinville, Kirkland, Shoreline, and five other towns.
Edmonds Police obtained a warrant and searched the car after contacting the man, 41, and woman, 34, on Feb. 15 at 1:30 a.m. because the vehicle was being driven without the headlights on.
“They went to nine different jurisdictions to gather this mail,” said Edmonds Police spokesman Sgt. Mark Marsh. “A lot of it came from Kirkland.”
The mail was also allegedly stolen from Seattle, Kenmore, Bothell, Lynnwood and Arlington.
“What we’re doing is trying to contact folks here in Edmonds first,” said Marsh.
When the case is adequately documented, he said, the pair will likely face felony charges of mail theft, second-degree possession of stolen property and misdemeanor charges.
The man was the driver, and was initially arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. The car was then impounded and a search warrant obtained.
Officers found 407 pieces of mail belonging to between 134 and 159 victims.
