One firefighter was slightly injured and a dog rescued during a house fire in north Juanita Monday morning, battled by eight units from five fire departments.

"It was rock and rolling when we got there," said Kirkland Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Haschak. "It got up in the attic and it took us a few minutes to get to it. There was a lot of fire coming out of the building when we got there.

"In fact, people three blocks away at McDonald's said they could smell the fire."

Investigators Monday afternoon were still investigating at the scene, in the 9700 block of 141st Court NE.

The injured firefighter suffered a minor ankle sprain. Haschak said the dog apparently alerted two young adult residents of the house to the fire, and then had to be rescued.

Eight units responded, including four from Kirkland and one each from the Woodinville, Bothell, Northshore and Redmond fire departments.

Haschak said the structure suffered heavy damage, but no cost estimate had been made yet.

The house fire was put out Monday morning in Juanita fire department crews with no apparent injuries after sending up a smoke plume that could be seen for a distance, KIRO television reported.

The fire started at about 10:30 a.m. at a residence on 141st Court NE, apparently beginning on a deck and spreading to a side of the house and reaching the roof. KIRO reported that occupants of the house were able to escape.
