Think you had a bad nights rest? Try sleeping on top of a moving truck for a couple of nights. That is exactly what one local firefighter will be doing to raise food for the needy. From October 11th through the 13th, firefighters from Woodinville and Bothell will be in front of Top Foods in Woodinville collecting much needed food for Hopelink and Food Lifeline. They will be standing outside the store greeting customers and collecting food. In addition to fire engines for the kids to see, there will also be a moving truck......with a tent on top.
Why sleep on top of a moving truck? “I’ll come down when we fill the truck,” says Greg Garat, president of the firefighters Benevolent Fund. “Food Lifeline estimates that there were 112 million missed meals in Western Washington in 2012. Hunger is a serious issue that we can do something about. That is why Top Foods, firefighters from Woodinville and Bothell, Fire Explorer Scouts, Lake Washington Technical College fire students, and First Due Movers are putting time and energy into this food drive. If sleeping on top of a moving truck for a couple of nights helps put food on someone’s plate, it’s worth it.”
