King County Sheriff's Office to Close Kenmore Precinct Dec. 5

The closure is part of an effort by the Sheriff's Office to save money and move deputies closer to the citizens and communities they serve. The move will mean more Sheriff's deputies in Woodinville.

The King County Sheriff’s Precincts located in Maple Valley and Kenmore will be closing their doors to the public starting Monday, Dec. 5. The change will bring more deputies to Woodinville, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The closure is part of an effort by the Sheriff’s Office to save money and move deputies closer to the citizens and communities they serve. The Sheriff estimates that the moves will save King County taxpayers more than $8 million over the next 20 years by closing these facilities.

“We are saving money, strengthening our relationships with our contract city partners, and improving our access and visibility for the benefit of the citizens of King County,” said Sheriff Rahr.

The closure of the Kenmore precinct means more Sheriff’s deputies will be using Woodinville Police as a sort of way station, according to police chief Sydney Jackson. Deputies who would otherwise have to go to Sammamish City Hall where the Kenmore precinct is relocating to Feb. 1, 2012, will be able to use the facilities in Woodinville for lunch breaks or writing reports. Consequently, that will mean more deputies driving through the streets of Woodinville.

Both the Kenmore and Maple Valley precincts will still have deputies in those cities, both cities contract with King County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement. The changes just mean the precincts will no longer be regional offices open to the public.

In the interim, anyone who uses the Kenmore Precinct may go to the Shoreline Precinct for fingerprinting and concealed pistol licenses. Shoreline provides these services on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment only. The Shoreline Station is located at 1206 N. 185 St. Or you can make an appointment by calling (206) 801-2710.

The Maple Valley Precinct will be combined with the City of Covington and is expected to be open by January 1. The Kenmore Precinct will move to Sammamish City Hall and will be open by February 1. Services that have traditionally been provided to the public at the precincts such as concealed pistol licenses (CPL) and fingerprinting will be temporarily available at other locations until the moves are complete.

The Burien and SeaTac Precincts will provide fingerprinting and concealed pistol licenses for individuals who would normally have gone to the Maple Valley Precinct.  We ask that the public call and make an appointment first.  The SeaTac Police Station is located at 4800 S. 188th St. You can make an appointment by call 206-973-4900. The Burien Police Station is located at 14905 6th Ave. SW. You can make an appointment by calling 206-296-3333.

The downtown Sheriff’s Office located at the King County Courthouse also provides fingerprinting and concealed pistol licenses on a walk in basis. The address is 516 3rd Ave. Suite 150 located on the first floor of the courthouse.
