Man Suffers Serious Fireworks Injury on Fourth of July

Woodinville Fire & Rescue responded to the incident behind Northshore Junior High School.

A 19-year-old man seriously injured his hand when a firework he was holding went off, a spokesman said Tuesday.

β€œIt did some pretty significant damage to his hand,” said David Weed, community services officer for the department.

The man, whose hometown wasn’t available, was holding a mortar ball firework on Monday when it exploded. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Weed said.

The incident happened in the woods behind Northshore Junior High School in Bothell.

Besides that incident, the Fourth of July holiday was fairly quiet, Weed said. The department responded to a minor brush fire near Cottage Lake, although the residents had it mostly controlled before the department arrived. And the department helped the Bothell Fire Department with one call, Weed said.
