Search teams working with the King County Sheriff’s office on Saturday recovered more pieces of bone from human remains found Friday at Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore, and authorities on Monday were waiting for results from the King County Medical Examiner’s office.
“We’re expecting to hear back from the medical examiner’s office in a few hours, possibly with an ID,” Sgt. Cindi West, King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said Monday afternoon. “We hope to find out exactly who the person was and what happened to him.”
A skull and bones were discovered by Bastyr University students Friday just off a trail in the 316-acre park, not far from the school’s campus. The medical examiner’s office determined that day that the bones were of an adult male, and that the remains had been there for some time.
West said they are not the prehistoric remains of a Native American, and that detectives were checking records of missing persons that might match the remains. “Once we have the remains identified, that will give us a starting point to find out what happened,” she said.
West said there were no obvious indications of foul play in the remains found so far. The medical examiner’s office possibly will be able to identify the remains through recovered teeth or DNA.
Forested Saint Edward State Park is on Finn Hill and mostly in Kenmore with a southern strip in the city limits of Kirkland. Bastyr University is adjacent the park's southwest section.
