Police Arrest Estranged Husband of Murdered Bothell Woman Susann Smith
Alan Smith was previously a person of interest in the case but has now been named a suspect, according to various media reports.
The estranged husband of murdered Bothell woman Susann Smith was arrested Thursday after police say he refused to hand over his passport to investigators.
KOMO News reports police had obtained a search warrant to look for Alan Smith's passport at his home. When investigators could not find the document, Smith was arrested.
Susann Smith, 37, was found dead in her Bothell home on Feb. 12. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner determined she died of head injuries and ruled her death a homicide.
Once a person of interest in his wife's murder, Alan Smith is now a suspect, according to various media reports. The couple had separated in 2011 and were in the middle of a bitter custody battle over their two children.
Days before the arrest, police were called to Alan Smith's home after neighbors reported hearing a woman screaming. Officers arrived to find Smith having sex with his girlfriend in the front yard, KOMO reports.
