Search for Missing Redmond Man Called Off

The search for Ira Clodfelter of Redmond has been called off after another full day of exhaustive searching by over 60 trained search and rescue volunteers.

The search for Ira Clodfelter of Redmond has been called off after another full day of exhaustive searching by over 60 trained search and rescue volunteers, Redmond police said Thursday afternoon.

Clodfelter was last heard from by a friend Sunday, Feb. 3. When he failed to show up for work at Eddie Bauer on Monday his employers called police. Clodfelter’s vehicle was located by park rangers Tuesday night near Rattlesnake Mountain in North Bend.

The immediate sources and resources available to investigators have been exhausted and haven’t yielded clues to his whereabouts, police said. Detectives searched computer forensics and other sources while over 60 search and rescue personnel from King, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish, and Thurston Counties sifted the area around the trail the last two days. The search and rescue effort will stop unless new information is found that can give authorities an idea of Clodfelter's whereabouts, Bove said.

Redmond Police spokesman Jim Bove said as far as they could tell, Clodfelter intended to go on a hike Sunday and had purchased granola bars and a GPS device the day before he went hiking. However, the clothing Clodfelter wore, jeans and a sweatshirt, could indicate he wasn't an experienced hiker, Bove added.

The Redmond Police Investigations Unit will continue to investigate the missing person case until all efforts are exhausted.
