A 15-year-old boy shot in the foot by a security guard at a federal building in Bothell Feb. 8 has been released from juvenile detention, the Seattle Times reports, and a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman says no decision has been made on whether he will face charges.
The boy was shot on the morning of Feb. 8 while fleeing in a car from two Protective Security guards at an office of the Food and Drug Administration at 22201 23rd Drive SE, a few miles north of Woodinville.
The guards were approaching the youth for the second time while investigating a suspicious vehicle in the lot. The youth allegedly backed the vehicle out of the lot and struck one of the guards, who then fired his weapon.
The teen is a student at the nearby alternative high school, Secondary Academy for Success, but exactly what he was doing in the FDA lot has not been revealed. In fact, few details of the event event have been disclosed.
He had been held on bail of $15,000 pending possible assault charges. The case is being investigated by the Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team.
“When the investigation is complete, they may or may not refer charges to the prosecutor,” said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shari Ireton.
After fleeing, the boy was involved in a hit and run accident not far away and later found by police at his home. He was treated at Kirkland’s EvergreenHealth Medical Center and then taken into custody.
