UPDATE, Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2:30 p.m.: One burglary suspect was captured Wednesday after a north Rose Hill homeowner surprised two suspects inside his house as they were stealing guns and other property, say Kirkland Police.
The homeowner chased the male suspects outside of his house, apparently caught up to them down the street and was assaulted, said Kirkland Police Department spokesman Lt. Mike Murray. The homeowner suffered minor injuries.
“It sounds like he was home the whole time and found those guys in his house,” Murray said. “He caught them in the home with a bunch of his stuff, including guns.”
The incident occurred at about 12:25 p.m. in a neighborhood near Mark Twain Elementary, which is at 9525 130th Avenue NE. The pursuit of the suspects apparently led from there to the area of The City Church nearby on 132nd Avenue NE, which marks the Kirkland-Redmond boundary.
Murray credited neighbors for calling 9-1-1 and alerting police, allowing them to capture one of the suspects. “There were probably nine or 10 different folks call and got us going on the right track,” he said. “It’s not often we can catch a suspect like that. It was awesome.”
Because the school has early release on Wednesdays, no lock-down was necessary, Murray said.
The suspect captured is “a habitual burglar” and police know the identity of the other suspect and are confident they will catch him, Murray said. One is from Maple Valley and the other from Everett.
A car the suspects apparently drove to the scene was located and impounded, and police were seeking a search warrant for it.
Murray said the homeowner was treated and released by an aide crew for his minor injuries.
Kirkland police captured one of two burglary suspects Wednesday after the pair were chased from a Rose Hill house by the homeowner.
A short post on Twitter by Kirkland Police Department spokesman Lt. Mike Murray credited neighbors for calling 9-1-1 and said police know the identity of the other suspect.
“Great job by all,” the Tweet said.
