$750K for Woodinville's Northshore Athletic Fields, Little Leaguers

State Senator Andy Hill presented a symbolic check for $750,000 Thursday, July 25 to local little leaguers for Northshore Athletic Fields.

The Northshore Athletic Fields near the Sammamish River Trail in Woodinville are about to get a very big facelift.

State Senator Andy Hill presented a symbolic check for $750,000 Thursday, July 25 to local little leaguers for Northshore Athletic Fields.

Helen Jackson, president of the Woodinville Little League, King County Parks Director Kevin Brown and King County Councilmember Jane Hague accepted the check.

The funding is a grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office and will cover needed improvements at the fields, including restroom facilities, equipment storage, handicapped access, batting cages, a concessions stand, and field improvements. The ball fields are managed under a public/private partnership with King County Parks.

Hill noted the "importance of investing in our youth and our future."

"This is about the kids and a great example of the community, county and state working together to provide for their needs in these challenging times," added Councilmember Hague.

The improvements will start immediately and are expected to be completed in the next two years.

Last October, Woodinville City Manager Richard Leahy proposed annexing the King County-owned parking area adjacent to the Northshore Athletic Fields, which he said at the time would allow for tourist-related business development. Patch will follow up as to the current status of this proposal. Check back for updates.
