Candidate Filing Begins Monday Throughout King County

In-person filing begins at 8:30 a.m.; candidates can also file online beginning at 9:01am.

Monday marks the beginning of candidate filing for the 2011 primary and general elections in King County. More than 300 offices are open in the county this year, and hundreds of candidates are expected to file for office with King County Elections.

Candidate filing opens at 8:30 a.m. for in-person filing and at 9:00 a.m. for online filing. Filing week ends at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 10, with online filing closing at 4 p.m. During filing week, candidates may file 24 hours a day online, in person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the King County Elections office in Tukwila, or by mail.

All applications must be received by King County Election officials by 4:30 p.m. on Friday. An updated list of filings will be posted on theelections website at noon and 6 p.m. each day until closing.

A lot drawing, which randomly assigns the order that candidates will appear on the primary ballot, will be conducted on Friday after filing has closed. The lot drawing order will be posted on the website later on that day.

  • Court of Appeals Judge
  • Superior Court Judge
  • Port of Seattle Commissioner
  • Mayoral and city council positions
  • School district directors
  • Commissioners for Fire District, Water District, Sewer District, Utility District, Public Hospital, Airport District, Cemetery District, Park and Recreation District.
