Gregoire Announced She Will Not Seek Another Term

After two terms, Gregoire is calling it quits.

Gov. Chris Gregoire announced Monday she will not run for re-election.

"This morning I announced that I will not seek a third term as governor. After much thought and discussion I know it's the right decision for me and for my family," Gregoire said in a statement according to the Seattle Times.

Gregoire first won the governorship in a heated race again Republican Dino Rossi in 2004. The election was so close it required two recounts. She defeated Rossi again in 2008.

Before becoming governor, Gregoire was the State Attorney General and became known for her role in reaching a nationwide settlement with tobacco companies.

Gregoire won the past two governor races by defeating Republican Dino Rossi in heated battles. The 2004 election was so close it required two recounts and a legal battle. Prior to the governor post, Gregoire was the State Attorney General, where she became known for her role in reaching a settlement in nationwide litigation with tobacco companies.
