THIS CAMPAIGN:

What is the primary reason you are running for this office? I would like to complete the work I started as the Northshore School Board President. Working collaboratively with the current school board has improved Northshore School District’s focus on students and I want to continue that work to keep us on the path of student-centered academics. My primary reason for seeking reelection is to continue our excellent work.

What will be your top three priorities if you get elected and why? My first priority is to continue the focus on student-centered goals. It is my belief that adults can frequently get caught up in the “business” of a school district and lose sight of the customer. I never lose sight of the fact that our students are our customers.

My second priority is to increase community engagement with the district. Our board has increased opportunities for our community to be involved dramatically informally, but I would like to focus more on collaborative communication for major decisions.

My third priority is fiscal responsibility. With our current difficult economy, we need to protect children’s education. It is vital that we are mindful of our taxpayer’s investments. Our students are our future.

What sets you apart from the other candidates and/or previous office holders?

My experience as a teacher makes me uniquely qualified to understand the realities of the classroom. Established credibility with the legislature through my years of child advocacy benefit Northshore’s ability to influence changes in law. These two qualities combined help me to understand the impacts of policy in a practical way. More importantly, I believe all children should have access to the very best education that we can provide.

How much money do you expect your campaign to spend on this election?

I estimate the cost to be $3000-$4000 for basic flyers and campaign literature in order to inform and educate the community about my goals and priorities as a school board director.
