Paula Waters Running for Woodinville City Council Seat

Paula Waters, long-time Woodinville resident and Planning Commission Chair, announced in May that she will seek position #1 on the Woodinville City Council in the November 2013 election.

Paula Waters, long-time Woodinville resident and Planning Commission chair, has announced that she will seek position #1 on the Woodinville City Council in the November 2013 election.

She is running unopposed as current position #1 councilmember Art Pregler has withdrawn from the race.

Waters said in a news release her history in Woodinville, her commitment to the community, and her work on the Planning Commission are the reasons she is running for the Woodinville City Council.

In particular, Waters points to her work on the Planning Commission, including lengthy study and approval of the Downtown Plan.

“On the City Council I will apply the Downtown Plan, so that our citizens can realize its benefits: a downtown with real walkability and liveliness and a thriving core, where development is focused so that we can both enjoy a vibrant downtown and protect the character of our neighborhoods,“ she said in the news release.

Waters’ recent work on the Planning Commission has included study of the now Council-approved Woodin Creek Village project along with proposed reconfiguration of downtown streets, among others.

“As a commissioner I work to understand citizens who come to our meetings and offer their views, to try to find ways to support them and the needs of a growing city, and to pass that along to the City Council," she said. "I promise to maintain that attitude of listening to citizens when elected.”

Waters is a 30-year resident of Woodinville. Her two daughters attended public schools in Woodinville and graduated from Woodinville High School. She spent many years volunteering in their schools while getting her BA at UW-Bothell. She then started writing the Police Beat column for the Woodinville Weekly.

In the early years of the city she volunteered with city staff to establish the Woodinville Heights pocket park in her neighborhood of Woodinville Heights and is also a graduate of the local CERT program. She was appointed to the Planning Commission in 2010 and has been elected chair three times. Waters has also been a member of the Woodinville Tree Board since 2012.
